Elva Santana arrived from the Pepa de Huso community of the Montecristi Canton in the company of Reinaldo Anchundia her son, suffering from rheumatic fever which removed mobility from his legs just a few months after being born. Elva looked very happy. Her son however was even happier, since at the age of 27 he was receiving his first wheelchair which would allow him to move around on his own.

Solbrisa Cercado, 61 years old, was another one of the beneficiaries. She received wheelchairs for her daughter and grandaughter who suffer from imperfect osteopathy, a genetic disorder, whereby bones are easily fractured. “My spinal column cannot take it anymore and for that reason we are deeply grateful for this help which will allow us to move our family members around with ease”, she pointed out excitedly.

They are part of the 30 persons who this morning received wheelchairs from la Junta de Beneficencia and the church of Crist of Latter Day Saints. Eduardo Romero, foreign relations Deputy Inspector and Donations Management said the objective behind these deliveries is to improve the quality of life and include people with diminished capabilities into the mainstream of society.

Last year the Guayaquil Institution benefitted 909 persons by delivering wheelchairs and, so far in 2018, 440 Ecuadorians have benefitted.

Delivery occurred at the Corazon de Jesus Home in the presence of family members, beneficiaries and technical personnel from la junta de Beneficencia de Guayaquil.
