Around 26 persons benefitted from those wheelchairs delivered by La Junta de Beneficencia de Guayaquil in coordination with the “Free Wheelchair Mission” to improve mobility for those disabled.
Six years ago Eufemia Santillan, a lawyer by profession, was diagnosed with osteoarthritis to the hip. This forced her to use a cane to move around. Today, at age 56, being overweight and with a fractured left foot has been confined her to the main armchair in her home.
Grelia Salinas arrived from the coast to receive the wheelchair for her mother, Saturina Orraia who is 81 and suffering from Parkinson´S Disease.
Beneficiaries who arrived from various sectors in Ecuador and received a wheelchair were evaluated a while back by physiatrists from hospital Luis Vernaza.
“I am grateful to La Junta de Beneficencia because thanks to this donation I will be to take my mother to medical appointments. For monetary reasons I hadn´t been able to buy one,” commented Grelia.
