Around 60 persons from the city of Cuenca improved their lifestyle thanks to those wheelchairs delivered by La Junta de Beneficencia de Guayaquil and which were donated by the Northamerican, non-governmental organization, Free Wheelchair Mission.
The beneficiaries are people of scarce economic means who are attended to at the different social aid centers administered by the Cuenca Archdiocese, among them the Santa Maria de la Esperanza Foundation, the Hermano Miguel (Brother Miguel) Center, Peace Messangers, the San Francisco Shelter, and the Archdiocese Social Pastoral.

Eduardo Romero, deputy Inspector for Institutional Cooperation with entities similar to la Junta de Beneficencia de Guayaquil; Monsignor Marcos Perez, Archbishop of Cuenca, beneficiaries and representatives from the different foundations, were all present during delivery.

Manuel Cuzco, who is 44 years old, and born without a complete set of legs, would drag himself around to move, said, “May God Bless la Junta de Beneficencia, today as always, thank you for not forgetting us”.

Sister Gerarda Erazo from the Santa Maria de la Esperanza (Holy Mary of Hope) Foundation from Chordeleg Said, “The Gerontological Center attends to a total of 74 elderly adults and only 10% can fend for themselves, hence the need for these chairs which will help mobilize our grandparents”.
