Juan BravoForty one-year-old Juan Vilca Bravo, coming from Lima, Perú left his home in 2006 and did not return. He is supposed to have traversed Argentina to later come to Ecuador. His family thought he had disappeared since they knew nothing at all regarding his whereabouts.

In 2013 Juan was wandering aimlessly around the city of Guaranda which is the Capital of the Province of Bolivar. He was found during a police raid and was brought to the city of Guayaquil. Given the circumstances and the state he was in he was in he was subsequently interned in the Instituto de Neurociencias (Neurosciences Institute).

Juan Vilca arrived, escorted by policemen to the Instituto de Nuerosciencias emergency area to be interned. After a month in observation, he was taken to the San José residence diagnosed with an unspecified mental disorder.

Patient could not recall his own name, age, where he came from or what he was doing in Ecuador whereby personnel decided to call him "n/n San Miguel", after several attempts to make the patient remember his own name.

After two years of giving him the corresponding medicine, psychoeducational therapy and diverse evaluations, Juan Vilca´s memory is noticeably improved for he now remembers his name, surname, place of origin including his home name, place of origin including his home address in Lima Perú, his hometown.

An auxiliary nurse and a social worker accompanied Juan during his journey back home. On reaching the given address, his mother was surprised to see her son after 9 years.
