Thirty disabled persons from different cantons in the Guayas Province received wheelchairs, free of charge, thanks to coordinated efforts by la Junta de Beneficencia de Guayaquil with the Northamaerican Free Wheelchair Mission Organization.
One of the beneficiaries was Andrea Villon who arrived from the Los Helechos area in the Duran Canton to receive her wheelchairs. “Three years ago I was shot in the back during a holdup and I lost mobility in my whole body. Thanks to therapies I have recuperated but I will no longer be able to walk and this chair will be of great help to me”, she manifested.
Delivery occurred at the Holy Child Sanctuary in Duràn through Monsignor Anibal Nieto, Bishop of the Yaguachi San Jacinto Diocese, which benefitted people from the Milagro, Yaguachi, Naranjal, Naranjito, el Triunfo, Villanueva and Duran sectors. “All of these communities belong to the San Jacinto Diocese and we feel very pleased for this work that La Junta de Beneficencia is doing to benefit the poorest people”, Monsignor Nieto pointed out.
During this year La Junta de Beneficencia de Guayaquil has delivered 690 wheelchairs to people with mobility problems throughout the entire country, giving their autonomy back to them and improving the quality of life of beneficiaries and that of their families.
