Leonor Altamirano, 72 years old, arrived from the Milagro canton to the Neurosciences Institute of La Junta de Beneficencia de Guayaquil where a free eyesight measurement and glasses delivery campaign by the “Volunteers of Santa Cruz” made up of 39 persons took place in coordination with la Junta de Beneficencia.
After going through a visual appraisal by ophthalmologists and optometrists from Canada, Leonor emerged happy to clearly distinguish the lettering in the magazine she was given to read and see if she felt comfortable with the glasses she was given in accordance with her needs. “These glasses are progressive for reading and for seeing up close and from afar”, as Janeth, one of the volunteers, who attended to her explained. Leonor, thankful for the attention received, requested they keep doing this work which benefits those without the means to see a specialist, worse still, buy glasses.
Another beneficiary was Raul Granizo from Cañar who arrived through the father Damian Foundation who was diagnosed with cataract in his left eye and given glasses and sunglasses for solar protection.
Meanwhile Esmeralda Moreira, 67 years old, arrived with her father. Both were appraised by the specialists and, after all visual examinations, were given their glasses. “I had been suffering headaches for over two years and was told I needed to wear glasses, but was unable to buy them for lack of money. I feel grateful for this beautiful Job they are doing, they have all been very kind and patient with each person”, said Esmeraldas. This is the sixth campaign performed by the Santa Cruz Volunteers together with la Junta de Beneficencia de Guayaquil. In each one they have benefitted nine hundred persons by improving their eyesight through gratuitous glasses delivery to those who need them.
