On this occasion free-of-charge wheelchairs reached the Fertisa sector south of the city where six persons will improve their quality of life thanks to the “Free Wheelchair Delivery Program” from La Junta de Beneficencia de Guayaquil in conjunction with the Jesus Christ Church of Latter Day Saints.
One of the beneficiaries was Maria Elena Cedeño, 42 years-old and suffering from cerebral paralysis and high blood pressure. Her mother Hilda Delgado pointed out it was the first time Mary would use a wheelchair. “Thank God I will rest a little because my spinal column has been affected”, she commented.
Before delivery, beneficiaries were evaluated by specialists from the Luis Vernaza Hospital to guarantee a wheelchair reception according to their needs. “The inspection performed goes beyond wheelchair delivery, it refers to the beneficiary's integral situation. Its place as part as part of rehabilitation is accomplished that is, reinsertion into society, has limitations”, as expressed by Dr. Laura Flor.
Rockie Encalada, Communal Home for Disabled Persons President from the Fertisa sector, thanked both Institutions which made the donation possible. “We felt very happy because now these families will be able to enjoy themselves, go out for a walk and attend medical appointments with greater ease”, he concluded002E
