Lupita is 62 years-old and is from Duran. Her burning desire to walk and see a ray of hope is a daily ocurrence. Her hands and legs reflect the tracks left behind from her pain due to degenerative rheumatoid arthritis from which she has been suffering for the last 12 years and has her stuck in a wheelchair.
Lupita receives free medical attention at the Hospital Luis Vernaza as well as medicine, physical therapy, sheets, a walker and a wheelchair among other things for her well-being. "My body ached too much even when I moved. Now I have a bed and a mattress that La Junta de Beneficencia gave me. La Junta gave me all that, over and beyond health care", explained Lupita.
Her faith has shown invaluable gratitude to the Extra daily paper, la Junta de Beneficencia and the Hospital Luis Vernaza because they have improved her life. "Ever since La Junta de Beneficencia searched for me to offer help, I decided to pray for her as well as the entire Hospital that they may always continue to care and heal all of us who lack the means to pay, said Lupita at the end of her internal medicine consultation; she was receiving as part of her medicinal controls.
Today Lupita receives attention from the Opportune Help" Program which provides assistance in extreme circumstances to persons of scarce means and who require immediate attention. Opportune of scarce means and who require immediate attention. "Opportune Help" has managed to attend to over 100 cases.
