La Junta de Beneficencia de Guayaquil delivered 13 wheelchairs, 4 pairs of crutches, 2 walking sticks and 3 walkers during the Medical Workday organized by the Guayaquil Cerro Azul Rotary Club in which various Health Institutions came together for the benefit of people of scarce means from the Naranjal Canton.
One of those beneficiaries is Tomasa Ramirez Calero, 55 years old with deformed hands, knees and various parts of her body as a result of arthritis from which she has been suffering for 20 years and which impair mobilization on her own. Her granddaughter Alexandra Fernandez commented that the wheelchair will be very useful to take her on a stroll particularly for medical appointments.
“This chair will be of great benefit to me because my family needs to move me to a midtown Hospital on the other side of the Panamerican Highway and when the Health Brigades show up they also take me. Besides, it is reinforced because the highway is filled with stones,” commented Tomasa while observing her new wheelchair.
Maria Elena Andrade, from the Guayaquil Cerro Azul Rotary Club pointed out the collaboration of various Institutions to execute these medical workdays "This is a joint effort with the Rotary Club, the Naranjal Municipality, Solca and La Junta de Beneficencia de Guayaquil with technical support consisting of wheelchairs, walking sticks, crutches; besides other specialists who have joined the campaign,” he explained.
