Carlos Góngora was unable to hide his delight on realizing that the twelve dollars destined to rent a wheelchair when he needed to take his daughter to medical appointments will now be used to buy medicine. “My little six–year old was born with a hydrocephalous and myelomeningocele condition as well as a sprained hip and club foot. With this chair it is easier to attend consultations with the different specialists who attend to her”, he pointed out.

During interviews with El Universo and Expreso newspapers last April 13th and 14th respectively Eng. Ernesto Noboa, Junta de Beneficencia de Guayaquil Director, spoke about the problems affecting the Institution from health-attention to non-payment, specially from patients derived from Social Security.

Wheelchair distribution is improved

Part of the responsability maintained by the wheelchair donation program of La Junta de Beneficencia together with the North American Free Wheelchair Missión, FWM, is constituted by the instruction of those representing social aid Institutions which receive these chairs, insofar as assembly knowedge, repairs and other important aspects to the benefit of end users of this important implement of mobility.

Luis Felipe Maldonado, 85 years-old, from the Dorado sector was one of the beneficiaries. His daughter Yolanda Maldonado came to take the chair away since her father is suffering from a vertebrae 3 and 4 fracture in the lumbar region of the spinal column for the past 40 years. “I am from Quito and I arrived in Puyo a year ago. I have knocked on many doors to secure a wheelchair and today I have obtained it”, she pointed out excitedly during the wheelchair delivery, as well as other implements of mobility that la Junta de Beneficencia de Guayaquil delivered in the Province of Pastaza in coordination with the Jesus Christ church of latter day Saints..
